- Acting for Two: John Wesley Shipp plays both the titular hero and his Evil Knockoff Pollux. Since this show has retroactively been made part of the Arrowverse, then he's acting for four as he played that universe's version of Henry Allen and his Earth-3 counterpart, Jay Garrick.
- Breakup Breakout: Vito D'Ambrosio, who played Bellow, gets to do a recurring Remake Cameo in the wildly successful remake. Justified though, as Murphy's actor, Bliff Manard, passed away months before its series premiere.
- Executive Meddling: There was a constant shifting from one time-slot to another, eventually causing the show's cancellation after one season. Explained more fully on the show's Wikipedia page
. - Follow the Leader: This show really wanted to be a TV version of Tim Burton's Batman film. Hell, just like similar obvious hanger-on Dick Tracy, it has Danny Elfman music that's barely changed from his Batman score.
- Real-Life Relative: Since this show has retroactively been made part of the Arrowverse, then it has David Cassidy's (Sam Scudder/Mirror Master) Real Life daughter Katie playing Laurel Lance/Black Canary.
- Screwed by the Network: The series aired for only one season on CBS and had its time slot constantly changed before it was canned. For example, at one point, this hour long drama was moved to air at 8:30 PM to avoid competing with The Cosby Show and The Simpsons, as it had been. The executive who gave it the ax is on record as saying it was "the best show I ever cancelled."
- What Could Have Been: Had there been a second season, it would've opened with a Villain Team-Up consisting of Captain Cold, the Mirror Master and the Trickster in order to take down the Flash. This gets a Development Gag during the Season 2 Christmas Episode of The Flash (2014), except Weather Wizard takes Mirror Master's place.
- The role of Barry Allen/The Flash was originally written for Richard Burgi. Burgi ended up guest starring as Deadly Nightshade in the episode Deadly Nightshade.
- The role of Barry Allen was originally offered to Jack Coleman, who turned it down because he didn't want to wear tights or be involved in a superhero show. Coleman would later go on to play the role of Noah Bennett in Heroes.
