So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo was a fun game; I'm always up for an interesting horror game.
I've actually been playing Nanashi no Game again, and I would definitely love to see similar games from Square Enix in the future, though I'm not sure how likely that is.
I'm still pleasantly surprised that Soken Masayoshi did the music for Nanashi no Game.
Yeah, Valkyrie Elysium was actually one of my favourite games from 2022, and I'll always be disappointed it didn't do better.
As to Diofield Chronicle, normally I like to go into games blind; but in this case I'm glad I found out what happened in the story before hand, so that I could avoid the thing.

I've been sure to grab the smaller ones that are at least appealing to me. Octopath, Bravely Default, Triangle Strategy, Tactics Ogre, TWEWY etc

NEO TWEWY... one the best games that Square didn't advertise what so ever and didn't sell because of it. They flat out Shadow dropped it on Epic and Steam.
One of those underrated games that no one played.

The exclusivity for this and ff16 was a terrible mistake. Both would have done gang busters if they were on all systems form the get go.

It is a curious question if they could even make those 2 games without the exclusive deal's money.
There's a weird Catch-22 situation here, but maybe if the PS 5 did a lot better then we'd be seeing more sales.

the intended goal behind console exclusivity is to sell the console and then it's games,but when the console itself more expensive then the game you want to buy you quickly why this approach does'nt always work

Did the Remake actually fail or is Square using the success baseline of "Tears of the Kingdom is a failure because it didn't outsell the previous game in the 7th of the timeframe"?

According to Square Enix's own financial report they lost money off their games that aren't MMOs or mobile gacha. So FFXVI, Rebirth, DQM3, Infinity Strash, the console ports of Pixel Remasters, and Foamstars collectively cost about $692m to make and sell while bringing in about $640m in sales, leading to a net $52m loss. Since XVI and Rebirth were their two biggest titles of the year they were banking on the most, it's hard not to conclude that they underperformed to what SE needed them to make. The only other explanation is if you want to blame it all on Infinity Strash and Foamstars or something.

Which is ironic as XIV's initial release was such a disaster.
I cant believe the Pixel Remaster was not profitable. It makes sense the bloated over budgeted fare flopped but the lowest effort thing ever DIDNT TURN A PROFIT?

The Pixel remasters were terrible. They flat out left out content out of the superior GBA or PSP versions that were already on mobile and other places...
Why buy an inferior game.

I stopped paying attention to Square re-releasing old Final Fantasy games when they put out that smudgy Chrono Trigger one and acted surprised when nobody liked how it looked.
I did buy Star Ocean: The Second Story R though.
Oh god getting rid of that version to put out the lesser versions was a terrible idea.
Paranormasight was one of my favorite games of last year, so I'm definitely disappointed we're no longer going to be getting many of those mid-tier games from Square.
