As much as personal nostalgia makes me want to go for 1.2, I'll admit Mike Myers looks way scarier than Jafar so 1.1

I prefer 1.2. The text in 1.1 is doing all the work. 1.2 has Jafar looming over the heroes, implying that he's coming back after the happy ending. It's not much, but it's a little bit more.

I prefer 1.2 as well; him looming over the logo is much more indicative of “returning” to me.

It's called Returning Big Bad. When people think of Big Bad, they think of an evil mastermind coming back to terrorize the heroes. And that's what Return of Jafar looks like.

Halloween 4's poster just shows Michael Myers and no indication of who he's terrorizing. If someone doesn't know what Halloween is about, they could assume, however unlikely, that Michael Myers is some sort of Anti-Hero killing Asshole Victims.

1.2 is the most concise IMO.

Yeah me too, not that it was hard mind you given aforementioned nostalgia. But the looming does look more "calculated" and even if you do know who Mike Myers is but haven't watched most of the movies (like me) he does look more like a random Stock Slasher and not necessarily the one in control.
